On a neighborhood walk in April 2026, I heard the loons calling on their stopover in Minneapolis. They were resting at the lakes on their way north just as I was finalizing this piece. For a brief period, the North Woods were in the city. Inspired by acts of tremendous courage, resilience, and spirit, I imagined a loon combined with a phoenix. This painting is a statement that love always triumphs.
