"Melting the Beeswax"

Dyeing Easter eggs is one of my favorite early spring activities. It's a signal that winter is over and time for fun bright colors. A few years ago my sister bought a Ukrainian egg kit and we tried it together as a family-pretty much everyone thought they were too difficult, but I got hooked. As we made them, I envisioned a dark candle lit room, still enveloped by winter outside but ushering in the spring with the colored eggs illuminated by a single beeswax candle. After completing the series of layers of dyes, the beeswax is melted off the egg with a candle flame.
